Tumblr Enjoys “The Hobbit” as Only Tumblr Can
The movie hadn’t even come out, I think, and Tumblr was like “those dwarves are hot.”
Now Tumblr is posting about Thilbo.
I saw someone mention in their review of the film that The Hobbit included “a sexy orc.”

How is this a positive message. “Girls are smarter than boys”. How is tearing down others and aggrandizing ourselves a positive message? Define smart. Define smart-ER. Citation needed. Do we really need to do this shit.
No. We don’t.
If this graphic can make an unsourced claim, so can I. Girls are not smarter than boys. There are smart people. Anatomy is not destiny.
I wish I could write a better counterpost but I caught a cold bug and am not up to par this evening.
I agree that what’s between your legs doesn’t determine how smart you are, but I’m all for getting more girls and women interested in math and science. And not just rely on Girl Scouts to do it (I was stuck in a troop that basically made bracelets and colored shit for four hours a month).
Sure, I said nothing about that. I just don’t like their approach.

Tumblr’s New Guidelines
The only thing that annoys me is that I fear Tumblr was so free and open before only because that is what brings in the users. Now that there are many many millions of us, the laws and regulations will be laid down.
I don’t care for gore, but if someone wants to run a gore blog, power to them; it isn’t illegal. Same goes for the pro-ana blogs, the self-harm blogs, and (of all the silly things to get mad about) “follow trains”. Free speech covers a lot of ground, including things that I personally find abhorrent. As long as a blog isn’t doing anything illegal, Tumblr the site should tell concerned parents everywhere to go fuck themselves.
But hey, there are now many many millions of users on Tumblr, so it’s time for responsible businessmen to draw the lines, set the standards, rule the roost. Hurray for civilization! Trust me, people, if you were making money with your starvation diets and beheaded corpses, nobody would stop you from doing your thing. Right this very minute people ARE making money off of those very subjects, and civilization can do nothing more than bitch about it on Sunday mornings.
CIVILIZATION is a hypocrite that hopes nobody notices.
Now, you’ll have to excuse me- I must go delete any giveaway-related posts that I recently reblogged. I don’t mind giveaways being regulated away from Tumblr, but I do wish they had made a bigger point of the new rule. Heaven knows they found it easy enough to harangue us about Missing E.

I’ve been having trouble with my queue too. I *do* use Missing e, and I ticked the little “I should never expect support ever” box, so I haven’t even mentioned it to the Tumblr powers that be.

Just had a nice discussion with someone on Tumblr about books.
A lot of us are kind of shy about messaging people on Tumblr. (I know I am, all too often. :X )That’s why when we do talk to someone here we tend to do it on anon. But if you want to ask/tell someone something, and they have an ask box, go ahead and message them! If you are afraid you’re bothering them, they don’t have to reply if they don’t want to. (If they shoot something rude at you, they are a jerk who doesn’t deserve messages and their father smelt of elderberries.)
